Audio Mixing
While focusing a lot of energy into show booking and promotion, Brent Oliver is also a very experienced sound technician in the live and studio veins.
At both New City and the Rev Cabaret, Brent was the house technician and teched shows ranging from solo artists to 12 piece bands. Most recently, Brent took over doing sound at the Sidetrack Café as another audio tech at its new location and has since moved to The velvet Underground as it's primary tech.
Brent is experienced in working on analog and digital consoles as well as a wide range of inserts, preamps and effects. He's mixed for artists on the road like Jim Bryson, Mollys Reach, The Smalls, Oh Suzanna and others. Some other rooms Brent has teched are The Pyramid (Winnipeg), The Horseshoe Tavern (Toronto), Call the Office (London), Seedy's (Edmonton), Broken City (Calgary) and many more.
Besides live sound, Brent has also studio recorded over 100 bands in his career. Some of these highlights include: Choke - Give'er (Smallman Records), Pal Joey - Tennessee Angels (GP Records), as well as demos and other projects for Mollys Reach, Slow Fresh Oil, Jody Shenkarek, King Lettuce, Bumpercrop, Kung Fu Grip, The Maybellines, Trenchmouth (featuring SNL castmember Fred Armisten) and many more.
GPHL
The Green Pepper hockey league was the brainchild of promoter (and hockey nut) Brent Oliver.
Over the last 9 seasons, the league as gone through highs (Flying Tiger/ Black Dog finally winning 2004's trophy) and lows (Brent loses his right eye by an errant puck in the first season) - but has always been the best place for the guys and gals of Edmonton's bar and band scene to share their love of the game! Described by league commissioner Jenn Elliott as a "root beer league" the GPHL encourages all players of hockey, past and present to hang out for some beer on a Sunday afternoon, and just maybe - play a little hockey.
This year's 9th season kicked-off on Sunday, October 1, 2006. All games are played on one sheet of ice at the Edmonton Ice Box in the West end of Edmonton at 10840 - 215 St. NW
Admission is free for every game, and fans and players are encouraged to come out for all the games up at Cheers & Tears, The E.I.B. full service bar.
